Linda Hartley

Linda Hartley has been an active participant in the Ikenobo Ikebana Japanese Floral Arts Society for almost thirty years. She was awarded a level twelve cerificate as professor of Ikenobo Ikebana Floral Arts in 2006, and continues to present demonstrations, teach classes and attend teacher workshops in San Francisco, Toronto and most recently at the Ikenobo Headquarters in Kyoto, Japan.

She is currently the president of the Ikebana International Society in Montreal, Canada. Ikebana International is a world wide organization dedicated to the teaching and enjoyment of Japanese Flower arranging. The moto of Ikebana International is “Friendship Through Flowers”.

For her, seeing that first exhibition of Ikenobo Floral arrangements was love at first sight and paved the way for entry into a new world of expression. What she enjoys most about the world of Ikebana is the principle of life long learning. There is no “graduation” in Ikebana, even if one has many years of experience. She tries to emphasize the joy of self discovery in the creative process.

She believes that the only competitor there is in Ikebana is one’s own self. With each arrangement we are striving to express our inner beauty and life essence more clearly every time we face our container and work with wonderful floral materials.
